I grew up in San Francisco where insects don't sound like helicopters (love the Armageddon reference - so apt!), but much of my childhood soundtrack comes from Terre Haute, Indiana, where I was born and where we would visit in the summer. I still love all the whirring and buzzing that goes on there. Thanks for this close-up view of the critters. I ran into them (literally) while visiting St. Louis this weekend. One even died between my sunroof and shade cover for the sunroof. They are huge and disgusting! Glad we don't have them in Illinois.
